a little glimpse into our whirlwind trip back from DC last weekend...

With over 2000 flights canceled or delayed over last weekend in Chicago due to a mess that happened after a guy set fire to an air traffic control building, we had quite an ordeal getting out of DC on Saturday into Chicago.  (When it was all said and done, we spent about 7 hours in the DC airport waiting for our plane.)

When we discovered that our flights were delayed and that we did not quite know how we were going to get back to Seattle, Taylor's eyes filled with tears. He came and stood next to me in line and I just hugged him and rubbed his back as we waited to find out our fate. He stood with me as I talked to the agent and tried to think outside the box brainstorming every option I could think of.  When Taylor and I came back to the seats where Jason and Anna were waiting, we reported that the agent told us that our best bet was to wait it out and hope that we could get on the flight to Chicago. There was a slight chance that we could still make our connection since everything has been delayed, but it was not likely.  The other option would be that we would catch a flight out of Chicago Sunday morning.  I told everyone that the good news was that now we had plenty of time to go see my parents who were waiting in another terminal in the airport.   Taylor had calmed down at this point and he sat on his chair and said quietly, "Mom, thank you for being so...(and then he paused thinking about the word to choose).... optimistic!"

so thankful when I see these little glimmers... (and I knew that you would understand that this was music to my ears as we are working on this with him the best we know how to do....:)

(And here's the blog post I wrote about our wild night last Saturday night in the Chicago airport after long delays in the DC airport!! -- and one of the reasons I am still pretty wiped out after my first week of teaching at SPU too!)

Chicago Cots

Quite the adventure tonight in the Chicago airport... All hotels are booked due to the craziness of events here the past few days so the airport set up cots in one terminal.  (There was a city-wide sell out of rooms!) So, we're camping in A-4... Night-night!

They had 250 cots set up for travelers in the airport that night!

so thankful for the kindness of strangers....
a whole box was here with ziplock bags full of things for stranded travelers.
